There's always a reason...

...behind a blog. This one came out for several reasons, but one above all. Animals can't give speeches, sign petitions, join protest marches, make SOS appeals, write to the papers, blog, have discussions, start seminars, set up movements. In India, the human plight tends to loom so large that animals always come second, or third, or last. In this space, we can include their stories. Post pictures of companion animals. Link to animal rights resources on the web. Get together and do something to help. Share the good news, when it happens. Discuss laws and work out ways in which to make them more animal-friendly. Because we can. And while animals can communicate, while they do think, while they can feel happiness, while they have families of their own and children, while they can suffer, while they explore the world around them through sight, smell, taste, hearing and touch... they can't blog. Not just yet.

Golly, I could not agree more. The recent PETA ad on tv on discouraging the use of leather is a feather on any animal lovers hat.

Thanks for writing in, J, and sorry it's taken me so long to get this up and running. The Blue Cross is very active in Pune--get in touch with them and report this as a case of animal cruelty.
